I have a Kenmore range that I was using last night to cook Lasagna. It was cooking at 400 for about 1 hour 40 minutes. I opened the oven to pull the lid of the pan off. After 5 minutes I returned and the top of the lasagna was burning. After looking in the over I could see the broiler element was on (hence the burning) and then the display showed f10 and I shut it off. Now when I try to turn on oven on to bake it starts heating with the broiler element.

From reading through other post I believe it could be the control panel, but thought I would post and see if there are anything I should try to diagnose the problem further. Thanks.

Any thoughts on this? I believe the control board is the problem but am looking for any other thoughts before I spend the money to order it.

The "F10" error code means that the control senses runaway temperature. The problem is a shorted relay in the EOC (aka a clock/timer) and the correction is to replace the EOC.

      - The EOC Part number: AP4700815

      Part number: AP4700815

Well I turned on the oven last night and too my suprise it is now working perfectly. Now the question is, do I replace the part or see if it continues to work. My only concern with replacing the part is that I wont be sure that was the problem. Has anyone seen where this could be a sporatic problem?

If the error code you posted did show up once then most likely it will do it again.

If you did order the part from APP then you have up to 45 days to return it. I would keep the part and use the oven as often as possible for this period of time.

              Gene.
P.S. The return policy has been changed in 2011 and now you can return any part within 365 days!

This problem is very similar to the one that has started with my Kenmore range this week, except my model number (and manufacturer) is different. The symtoms are very similar - the range was baking fine and suddenly then the the temperature took off (blackening the dish!), the range started beeping away, and the error code F10 was displayed. I just tried it again today (without food in the the oven) and the very same thing eventually happened.

The range is Sear Kenmore Model 970-698380, Serial VF64956897. Can you please advise part number(s) I need to order? I might need to order?

                Thanks for the hepl!

                  Hi Dave,

In your situation you may want to check the oven temperature probe first. It should read about 1100 Ohms at the room temperature.

If the reading is incorrect, replace the oven temperature probe.

If the reading is correct, replace the EOC.

                  - The oven temperature probe Part number: AP3963654

                  Part number: AP3963654

                  - The EOC (aka control board) Part number: AP3965663

                  Part number: AP3965663

                  Gene.
P.S. As far as I know APP does not ship parts to Canada. You have to have a valid US address to order parts from APP.
